A historic, working fireboat & a floating revenue platform.
Guardian Fireboat, docked at sunset.
This page exists because every so often a piece of industrial history
becomes available. Not as a museum artifact but as a living, working asset.
Meet the Guardian Fireboat, an iconic midcentury fireboat with real provenance,
real capability, and real upside.
The Boat
Historic fireboat built in 1951
Designed for harbor firefighting, emergency response, and durability
Operated for decades on major west coast waters
Now in private hands, for sale
If you appreciate overbuilt machinery, public-facing history, as an asset that will turn heads
(and spreadsheets), you're in the right place.

This isn't just a boat
Most boats are expenses. This one is a platform. A floating stage with
instant visual authority
institutional credibility
multiple parallel revenue streams
It is the kind of asset that pays for itself if positioned correctly.

Current revenue streams
Fireworks platform operations.
The Guardian Fireboat is used as
a floating fireworks launch platform in partnership with Fireworks America, with
bookings throughout the year.
Purpose built stability and deck capacity.
Proven operational safety record.
Regular scheduled deployments.
This is not speculative, it is ongoing, contracted and repeatable. This revenue
stream alone can justify ownership.
Corporate and institutional appearances.
Corporate sponsors engage the vessel for its appearance, presence, and symbolic value on occasions when
there is a large on-shore audience. Notable engagements in the San Francisco Bay include
San Francisco Fleet Week (air show plus waterfront programming)
San Francisco Fleet Week Parade of Ships
San Francisco Giants home games at McCovey Cove
Opening Day on the Bay - Blessing of the Fleet and Decorated Boat Parade
Rolex Big Boat Series
Master Mariners Regatta
numerous holiday lighted boat parades
Fourth of July waterfront fireworks
The Guardian's sides are steel and accept magnetic lettering and logo images for
temporary branding purposes. Guardian partners with Neal's CNC
to produce the magnetic items.

Tax Considerations (Not Tax Advice)
A purchaser placing the vessel into active commercial service may be able to write off a
significant portion of the purchase price through accelerated depreciation in the early
years of ownership. When classified as water transportation equipment under MACRS (generally
a 10-year recovery period), the vessel may qualify for accelerated depreciation, including
bonus depreciation under IRC §168(k), allowing earlier cost recovery with the remaining
basis depreciated over time.
By way of illustration only, a purchaser acquiring the vessel for $600,000 and operating
it as part of a bona fide business may generate substantial depreciation deductions shortly
after acquisition, which—subject to applicable tax rules—can be applied against existing
business or pass-through income. Actual tax treatment depends on the buyer’s specific facts,
including income type and participation. This information is provided for general
informational purposes only and is not tax advice; prospective buyers should consult their
own tax advisors regarding applicability to their individual circumstances.
For buyers who would rather put capital to work in a real operating asset than surrender
it outright, this structure offers a legitimate alternative.
